Lemlist alternative: free cold outreach sequences

By Cryptool|September 7, 2026|Product

Lemlist earned its following by taking personalisation seriously when the rest of the category was still sending obvious templates. Custom images, dynamic landing pages, and a genuinely good sequence builder. Teams that shop for an alternative usually do it for one of two reasons: the per-seat price as the team grows, or the fact that the clever personalisation features are the ones they never quite got around to using. Reach is a free alternative that comes with your Cryptool account.

What Lemlist does well

The personalisation tooling is still ahead of most of the market. Image and video personalisation that actually renders, liquid syntax for conditional copy, a solid multichannel sequence builder, and a warm-up product in Lemwarm that was early and is well regarded. The community and the content around it are a real asset too. If image personalisation is central to how you sell, Lemlist is the tool.

Where teams look elsewhere

Pricing is per user per month and climbs by tier, with the features most people came for often sitting above the entry plan. As a team adds a second and third sender the cost scales with headcount rather than with sending volume, which is the wrong axis for a small team running one campaign.

The other reason is subtler. Elaborate personalisation is expensive to produce and easy to get wrong, and a personalised image on a message with an unfilled merge tag underneath it is worse than a plain message. The teams that get results consistently are usually doing simpler things reliably.

What Reach does

It is free with a Cryptool account, with no per-seat charge, so adding a colleague as a sender does not change the bill.

The AI prompts are yours to edit. Every message intent, cold intro, reply, follow-up, comment and update, is an editable prompt stored per project, and you can reset any of them back to default. Most tools give you a fixed AI writer and a tone dropdown; here the instruction itself is the setting.

Research before the first line is written. The intelligence agent fetches public sources on a prospect and writes a brief, the sharpest opening angle, and a fit score out of a hundred, marking its confidence so you can tell what was found from what was inferred. It saves as a note on the prospect.

Personalisation that cannot misfire. Merge tags support fallbacks, so a missing first name reads as "there" rather than a raw tag, and empty-snippet detection refuses outright to send a message that still contains an unfilled tag.

Sequences with wait-steps. Sixteen steps, five A/B versions per step with the winner flagged on reply rate, conditions on reply, open and click, and the ability to park a follow-up until someone opens, with a timeout that skips or sends anyway.

Verification and deliverability included. Every address is checked by syntax, MX and an SMTP recipient probe before it is ever sent to, with no credits to buy, and you connect your own mailboxes with rotation, daily limits and warm-up.

Replies land in a pipeline. IMAP sync matches inbound mail to the prospect, logs the conversation, and stops the sequence, and the CRM underneath holds prospects, stages, tasks and notes.

Choosing between them

If personalised images and dynamic landing pages are how you differentiate, Lemlist does that better and this is not a close call. If what you need is a reliable sequencer with real verification, your own mailboxes, editable AI, and no per-seat cost, Reach covers it for free. Personalisation that reads as one to one matters, but it is mostly a research and copy problem rather than a rendering one.

Common questions

Does Reach do image or video personalisation?

No. That is Lemlist's strength and Reach does not attempt it. Reach personalises through merge tags with fallbacks, custom fields from your import, and AI-written copy from prompts you control.

Can I edit what the AI writes, or just pick a tone?

You edit the prompt itself, per message type and per project, and you can reset to the default at any time.

Is there a limit on how many people can send?

No per-seat charge. Sending capacity comes from the mailboxes you connect and their daily limits, not from your plan.

What stops a broken merge tag going out?

Empty-snippet detection blocks the send outright if a tag is unfilled, and fallbacks let you define what a blank field should read as instead.

Does Reach warm up mailboxes?

Warm-up is supported per mailbox, alongside rotation, daily limits and a test send from every mailbox before go-live.

Where do I start?

Open Reach with your Cryptool account and build your first sequence.
